How to Identify a Great Trainer and Coach?
The difference between excellent and ok, is the difference between, in athletic terms, the 1st place and the 4th. It pays a hundred fold to mentor with the best Teachers you can find.
That isn’t easy. There is so much mediocre noise in the self-help field, that identifying a Great Trainer and Coach in the ocean of marketing hype is a monumental task. Here is what I require of someone I will allow to mentor me:
- She is a smooth egoless mirror in which I can see my own reflection(s).
- He guides (and shoves if necessary) me to find my own vision of bliss.
- She shows me how to uncover the resources I already embody to start following my bliss.

Great advice! But how, in the midst of an “ocean of marketing hype”, does one structure an interview to assess if the prospective coach is actually profcient in those qualities you mentioned, before committing to hire? Word of mouth referrals would be useful, but so many services are offered strictly by phone consultation (especially when one lives in a rural area like I do). Having studied copy writing, I know first hand that on line testimonies are the epitome of hype and cannot be relied on unless a contact number is offered for those giving the reference….but that is not likely to happen.

Arman I would like perhaps share some of my thoughts on this topic. I think its critical that there is a match in the values and a deep congruence in what the trainer says and does.
